Title Year Director Your thoughts Votes
Kiss or Kill 1997 Bill Bennett Stylish, funny Australian film noire. 0
Go Big 2004 Tony Tilse Very Australian made with a small budget but written with classic Australian humour. 0
The Black Balloon 2008 Elissa Down Crystal Bear award in Berlin Film Festival, 11 nominations in the AFI awards. This film is gigantic. It deals with autism in a way which is confronting, yet not cloying and pathetic. It shows the magnificent strength and courage behind closed doors of people who might just live next door or down the street. 7
Last Train to Freo 2006 Jeremy Sims The acting was good and the psychopathic characters were very convincing. 3
The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith 1978 Fred Schepisi One of the best movies made here. 9
Long Weekend 1978 Colin Eggleston If you like John Hargreaves' knock-around-aussie-bloke routine, this is a must. B grade but strangely unnerving in a Hanging Rock kind of way. 0
Somersault 2004 Cate Shortland A great film about two young people discovering who they are & how their lives will change. A beautiful Snowy Mountains setting & solid soundtrack make this a winner. 4
Alisons Birthday 1979 Ian Coughlan Australia's scariest film.... 0
Lucky Miles 2007 Michael James Rowland Great outback adventure of three hapless migrants making their way across the desert. 1
Love Serenade 1996 Shirley Barrett Highly original film. 1
Gabriel 2007 Shane Abbess 1
Head On 1998 Ana Kokkinos A driving drama centered around the stresses of multiculturalism. Alex Dimitriades is superb as the lost but caring lead. The despair and confusion felt by (his) parents is palpable. Paul Capsis vibrant. A Melbourne film for a complex world. 7
Blood Oath 1990 Stephen Wallace Not only historically fascinating but more relevant now than when it was made. 2
Razorback 1984 Russell Mulcahy 1
The Club 1980 Bruce Beresford Unpretenscious film with great script and cast. Unmistakably Australian. 9
Sons of Matthew 1949 Charles Chauvel Typified early Australians struggling on the land. 0
The Sum of Us 1994 Geoff Burton, Kevin Dowling One of the finest, most positive films about gay people ever made 10
Rash 2005 Nicholas Hansen RASH is a contemporary story of modern urban Australia and the artists who are making it a living host for illegal artwork called "street art". 0
Look Both Ways 2005 Sarah Watt Look both Ways explored a parallel between a crossing and life in a very unique way, I enjoyed the animation sequences, as well as the music. All up it was a fantastic movie that explored how much or how little love is in a relationship whilst someone is ill. 13
Hercules Returns 1993 David Parker Australian comedy cult classic. How is it not on the list already??? 5
