Title Year Director Your thoughts Votes
Picnic At Hanging Rock 1975 Peter Weir 101
Romper Stomper 1992 Geoffrey Wright A very different view of life in Australia that I believe changed the way many people looked at themselves. 40
Shine 1996 Scott Hicks Astonishing acting and story. 64
The Man From Snowy River 1982 George Miller Iconic, scenic, appeals to all ages, and set to a majestic musical score 104
Storm Boy 1976 Henri Safran Made me cry when I was ten. The Coorong still lives in my memory for all its solitude, haunting beauty. Really good Oz film for kids. 13
Two Hands 1999 Gregor Jordan 41
Death in Brunswick 1991 John Ruane The incomparable John Clarke both wrote the screenplay and was in the film. Understated self-deprecating Aussie wit and storytelling at its best. 9
Ten Canoes 2006 Rolf de Heer, Peter Djigirr Unique historical perspective. 29
Careful, He Might Hear You 1983 Carl Schultz Good movie about a boy caught in a custody battle between his two aunts. Ultimately about what makes one happy, money or love. 1
The Club 1980 Bruce Beresford Unpretenscious film with great script and cast. Unmistakably Australian. 9
Crackers 1998 David Swann This is a Christmas story and I could never understand why it did not make it bigger. There are some of the funniest scenes I have never seen in a movie. It finishes with just the right amount of pathos. 0
The Devil's Playground 1976 Fred Schepisi A film touching on frustration and paedophilia in the Catholic priesthood/brotherhood decades ahead of its time. 2
Don's Party 1971 Bruce Beresford 5
He Died with a Felafel in His Hand 2001 Richard Lowenstein The story consists of a collection of colourful anecdotes about living in share houses in Brisbane and other cities in Australia with variously dubious housemates. It a clever story that will always be remembered as one of the greats. 8
Little Fish 2005 Rowan Woods Intelligent story line, great acting. 5
Unfolding Florence. The Many Lives of Florence Broadhurst 2006 Gillian Armstrong Interesting depiction of Florence's life, done in a quirky way by Gillian Armstrong. Different from anything else. 0
Gabriel 2007 Shane Abbess 1
Gallipoli 1981 Peter Weir AFI nomination 668
The Interview 1998 Craig Monaghan Gripping, thought-provoking. Great acting, directing and cinematography. 9
Kenny 2006 Clayton Jacobson 24
