Title Year Director Your thoughts Votes
15 Amore 1998 Maurice Murphy 2
40,000 Horsemen 1940 Charles Chauvel 7
A Town Like Alice 1981 David Stevens 25
Alexandra's Project 2003 Rolf de Heer A bleak portrayal of a damaged marriage. Brilliantly acted and shocking. 0
Alisons Birthday 1979 Ian Coughlan Australia's scariest film.... 0
Alvin Purple 1973 Tim Burstall 5
Alvin Rides Again 1974 David Bilcock, Robin Copping I actually enjoyed this movie more than Alvin Purple. I would have love to drop into that Road House Abigail was serving in. Well she was married to Mauri Fields who can blame her. 0
Angel Baby 1995 Michael Rymer Great performance from the lead actors. 1
Annie's Coming Out 1984 Gil Brealey AFI best movie 1984 0
Australia 2008 Baz Luhrmann It touches my heart and history; it connects the past with the present and allows us, as a nation, to move forward - if the critics will cease their chatter and let it heal us. This is the story I have been waiting to be told since I was a small child and experienced the divide between town and country, between one skin colour and another. 9
Babe 1995 Chris Noonan Great fun and good overall acting. 7
Backroads 1977 Philip Noyce 0
Bad Boy Bubby 1993 Rolf de Heer A daring, black comedy. Even if the plot is a little repetitive, the basic "Kaspar Hauser"-type premise was implemented with great humour and even sensitivity, showing de Heer's (then) future potential. Also a fabulous performance by Nicholas Hope. 23
Bedevil 1993 Tracey Moffatt Anglo-Aboriginal Australian magical realism "These stories are told via a playful bending and blending of generic conventions which provides a meta-narrative of how indigenous and non-indigenous Australians understand and live with each other." 0
Beneath Clouds 2002 Ivan Sen A simple, understated drama with towering performances from the two young leads - coupled with cinematography which can only be described as breathtaking. A superb Aussie road-movie. Who said the Australian film industry sucks ? 3
Bitter and Twisted 2008 Christopher Weekes 1
Bliss 1985 Ray Lawrence unique love story very cleverly done with a gret australian cast 18
Blood Oath 1990 Stephen Wallace Not only historically fascinating but more relevant now than when it was made. 2
Breaker Morant 1980 Bruce Beresford The South Australian Film Commission led the way on the revival of Aus films in the 1970s (Picnic included). Morant's story was an unusual choice for a film but a good one and a film that has stood the test of time - young Bryan Brown, Lewis Fitzgerald and Jack Thompson of course, all put in great performances. Well directed, well shot and writen. Perhaps not the most blockbusterish on the list, but worth including. 103
Bush Christmas 1947 Ralph Smart Great kids film 3
